Switch Position Annunciator
Communicate critical switch position well in advance of the point.
At a Glance
- SPA™ interfaces with a switch circuit controller utilized with a manual spring switch or switch stand
- Fully-programmable with interrogation codes and autonomous switch position announcements
- Dual Mode Interrogation: Interrogate switch through standard DTMF tones from railroad walkie-talkies and/or RADiANT™ data radio
- Announces position over voice radio (similar to Hot Box Detector operation) and/or displays switch status on PDA/laptop connected to the on-board RailComm RADiANT™
- Switch status recorded & displayed on RailComm DOC® Central Office Control System
- Optional upgrade to provide full Remote Control of switch points from a DTMF radio, RADiANT™ data radio or central dispatch office
- RailComm SPA™ can provide low cost broken rail detection when connected to a simple DC track circuit
- Designed for Solar Power, but can be converted if AC power is available
For over 100 years, railroads have used mechanical targets to indicate the point position of manually operated switches. However, these targets are difficult to see, especially at night. If you are in an on-track vehicle, you must slow down to safely verify the point position. There are dozens of documented incidents in which trains run through misaligned or gapped points, with potentially catastrophic results.
Switch Position Annunciator
Finally, there is a safer way. RailComm Inc. has developed the Switch Position Annunciator (RailComm SPA™), utilizingradio technology to communicate critical switch position information, well in advance of the point. Now a train crew can simply "interrogate" the Switch Position Annunciator, which then provides an audible and/or visual message indicating the position of the switch. What could be safer?
