Alton and Southern Expand Automation System

September 10, 2007 -- Alton & Southern Railroad continues to expand its existing RailComm Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) System by adding remote control functionality at the bowl end of their yard. Through remote PC workstations, yard elements can be controlled from different locations simultaneously.

A point-to-multipoint wireless data communications network will be established utilizing RailComm’s RADiANT™ Data Radio technology.  Nine switch machines with LED position indicators and point protection will be independently monitored and controlled from each workstation location.  The DOC® System will have entrance-exit and stacked routing capability.

As part of the project, RailComm will be providing switch position annunciators which will provide the switch position indication and send the position to the DOC® System for display.
