DOC® SaaS in Production Service on Genesee & Wyoming Railroads
August 27, 2007 --
RailComm, Inc. announces it has signed long term
service agreements with two Genesee & Wyoming railroads, the Portland &
Western Railroad and the Illinois & Midland Railroad. The service
agreement allows the two G&W properties to access RailComm’s
state-of-the-art Domain Operations Controller (DOC®)
train control system through a web-enabled Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
delivery model. Currently each G&W railroad is
utilizing the GCOR-based dark territory control application, with
near-term plans to add the DOC®
CTC control application. The dark territory control systems are in
revenue service today, and offer G&W railroads the ability to
consolidate dispatch desks on demand. RailComm’s DOC®
Software-as-a-Service offering is a
railroad industry first, and is destined to revolutionize dispatch
services, crew management, and the remote control of trains, power
switches and in fact, any electro-mechanical device. Mike Meyers, G&W Chief
Information Officer states “Genesee & Wyoming Inc is pleased to be
RailComm’s first customer to utilize their ‘Software as a Service’
(SaaS) delivery model. Housed in RailComm’s data center, their
system is available on demand via the Internet and provides our
railroads with a convenient and efficient way to implement train
dispatching and centralized train control (CTC). The DOC®
system is designed with built-in
expansion capabilities for adding workstations and/or field control
nodes without interrupting operation of the current system. Since the
control application resides on servers within RailComm’s managed data
center, the requirement for local IT support at each railroad is greatly
reduced. For more information, contact RailComm, Inc., 1387 Fairport Road, Fairport, NY 14450. Phone: 585-377-3360. About RailComm Contact Information: |
