RailComm Technology Eliminates Leased Line Code System on Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad

August 3, 2007 - RailComm, Inc. has completed testing and cut over of its DOC® (Domain Operations Controller) System for the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad (LS&I). LS&I is using RailComm’s DOC® system to control over 40 miles of track. The system supplied to LS&I includes CTC, Track Warrant Control, and SCADA applications, allowing the system to control trains within both signaled and dark territory, as well as monitor and control snow blowers.

A wireless data communications network was established utilizing RailComm’s RADiANT™ Data Radio technology, linking various field locations to the dispatch center. The wireless RADiANT™ network made it possible for LS&I to eliminate the physical wiring between locations and to also retire costly leased line services.

RailComm’s DOC® (Domain Operations Controller) is a next generation, computer-aided dispatching system used to centrally control signal systems and interlockings as well as dark territory. The DOC® software-based control system is currently installed in dozens of railroad control applications. The DOC® system supports a wide variety of integrated solutions for indication, control, access and distribution of critical operational data across the railroad enterprise.
