DOCTM Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Train Control Software Revolutionizes Railroad and Transit Operations

July 27, 2007 - RailComm announces the world’s first Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model for centralized train control, SCADA, and remote control of connected infrastructure equipment. This Web-enabled version of its industry-leading Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) software application is now available to provide remote control services of train control (CTC and Dark Territory), yard automation, distributed heater control systems, and mobile asset management systems.

Users can manage railroad operations through RailComm remote control applications delivered using a new and flexible approach, with no capital outlay.  By subscribing to RailComm’s command, control, communication and information services, all remote control applications are securely accessible through any authorized web interface.

  • Enable remote control for any device within the railroad or transit operation.  Application solutions for centralized traffic control, dark territory control (GCOR, NORAC and CROR), yard control, blue flags, derails, SCADA, and heater control can be easily deployed using the SaaS delivery model.

  • Access and monitor railroad operating functions from any web-enabled PC.  Critical information is available to all authorized users within an organization at any time, from any location.

By creating the railroad industry’s first web-enabled remote control system, RailComm has made it affordable to provide comprehensive disaster recovery, network security, automatic data replication and transparent system updates for mission-critical railroad control applications.  Since critical operating functions are available from any web-enabled PC, authorized users within an organization can control devices, monitor system performance and gather valuable information to maximize operating efficiencies.

The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model allows companies to outsource hardware and application hosting while maintaining complete control of customer support activities.  Capital costs are eliminated, and IT support costs are dramatically reduced.  The result is that rail operating companies can easily implement effective remote control solutions while maximizing security and disaster recovery services.

RailComm’s fault-tolerant data facility provides zero downtime through effective 24/7 operations and universal monitoring of both the control center and railroad operations.   Redundant support systems protect mission-critical control applications and offer a seamless failover for disaster recovery.  In-production service today means systems can be deployed and operational immediately.

About RailComm
RailComm, Inc. provides Machine-to-Machine technology (M2M) solutions for freight railroad, passenger rail and industrial operations throughout North America. We integrate our intelligent embedded controllers with existing field-based appliances and communicate remote control/status information to central and/or distributed control platforms such as our DOC® (Domain Operations Controller) server-based platform, and our line of industrial indoor/outdoor control panels. RailComm’s DOC® is a mission critical, server-based platform for Command, Control, Communication and Information (C3i) applications involving data acquisition, command/control decision logic, and complex communication networks. DOC® provides an extensible/scalable architecture to support a wide variety of customer specific industrial applications. RailComm control panels can be configured as stand-alone controllers or can be integrated with the DOC® system. RailComm control systems are installed on most Class 1 railroads throughout North America, as well as dozens of Passenger Rail, Short Line and Regional railroads.
