RailComm DOC® System Additions in Production at Alton & Southern

December 10, 2007 -- Alton & Southern Railroad continued to expand its existing RailComm Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) System by adding remote control functionality to complete the automation of their entire 19-mile mainline. RailComm also equipped mainline, hand-throw switches with its switch position annunciator (SPA) product, which displays switch position information from the manual switches on the DOC® System workstations.

This recent expansion of yard automation allows Alton & Southern to take full advantage of the built-in flexibility provided by RailComm’s remote control architecture. Networked workstations are placed in convenient locations to provide remote control access from multiple yard locations.  In addition to automating the “bowl” end of the yard, nine new remotely controlled power switch machines equipped with LED switch point indicators have been added to the control network. The DOC® System integrates the control of all new and existing switches, and provides complete entrance-exit routing and stacked routing functionality.
