RailComm continues to expand Remote Control Yard System at BNSF Tulsa

November 25, 2008 -- BNSF Railroad’s Cherokee Yard in Tulsa, Oklahoma has expanded its existing RailComm Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system by adding remote control derail and blue flag protection and power switch automation capabilities. The BNSF Cherokee Yard already utilized RailComm’s remote control system to control derails and switches through a DOC® system installed in 2005 and a separate expansion that was completed in 2007.

A new workstation, operated by the Mechanical Department, was added in conjunction with the two existing ones operated by the Operations Department. The workstations were connected to the existing redundant server system. By having the new system on the same network as the existing system, the signal maintainer can remotely access all event logs. All three workstations provide switch and derail control and monitoring capabilities. The DOC® logic server is sized to handle the load, plus offers substantial additional capacity for future expansion.

The system required a local control interface to both new and existing field equipment, such as power derails and power switch machines. This was accomplished by utilizing RailComm’s field-proven universal switch controller (USC). The RailComm USC allows the RailComm DOC® system to provide remote control to any third party (new or existing) field equipment.

About RailComm

RailComm provides Machine-to-Machine technology (M2M) solutions for freight railroad, passenger rail and industrial operations throughout North America. We integrate our intelligent embedded controllers with existing field-based appliances and communicate remote control/status information to central and/or distributed control platforms such as our DOC® (Domain Operations Controller) server-based platform, and our line of industrial indoor/outdoor control panels. RailComm's DOC® is a mission critical, server-based platform for Command, Control, Communication and Information (C3i) applications involving data acquisition, command/control decision logic, and complex communication networks. DOC® provides an extensible/scalable architecture to support a wide variety of customer specific industrial applications. RailComm control panels can be configured as stand-alone controllers or can be integrated with the DOC® system.

RailComm control systems are installed on all Class 1 railroads throughout North America, as well as dozens of Passenger Rail, Short Line and Regional railroads.
