RailComm Ships Two Union
Pacific Yard Control Systems
For Immediate Release FAIRPORT, NY – November 9, 2005. RailComm, Inc. has shipped two complete yard automation systems for use in the Union Pacific Butler North and Butler South yards located outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These wireless control systems will provide remote control of the switching leads of each yard and include stacked routing capability controlled from RailComm’s outdoor rated control panel. UP selected RailComm’s remote control technology to improve productivity in switching these two flat yards. A point to multi-point wireless data communication network was established utilizing RailComm’s RADiANT™ Data Radio technology, linking five Control Panels separated between the two yards. The Control Panels provide the ability to control multiple switches from the yard lead using wireless technology. Control to each switch is made possible with the use of a single push button that provides the capability to send Normal and Reverse command messages to each switch. Indications from each switch are displayed using color LED lights that graphically indicate the alignment of the switch as well as provide switch status. Routes are selected simply by pressing an entrance and exit button combination on the control panel. A command is sent to each switch to call it to the position required for the route, and to lock the switch from further remote (radio) or local (push button) control.
