New RailComm RADiANT™ Data Radios Simplify Wireless Data Communication

August 14, 2006 – RailComm has added several new models to its RADiANT™ data radio family of “plug and play” wireless data communication products. New RADiANT™ data radios from RailComm, Inc. offer 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz operation to effectively establish communications through multiple network architectures. The RailComm RADiANT™ eliminates the complexity typically associated with traditional radio-based data communications. By integrating the radio and antenna, RADiANT™ provides “plug and play” operation. Just power RADiANT™ (12v DC or 120v AC) and wireless data communication is established.

With RailComm RADiANT, the requirement for external RF cables is eliminated which translates into “plug and play” operation, lower costs, long range data communication and greater reliability. The unit is packaged in an outdoor-rated enclosure. Using a real-time communications (RTC) protocol to optimize the remote control network, RADiANT™ provides a reliable, economical wireless link to remote sensors, microprocessor-based controllers, and monitored mechanical devices.

Error-free communications over 20 miles at sustained data rates over 19.2Kbits/second have been demonstrated. Multiple RADiANT™ units can be flexibly combined into a variety of system architectures to form point-to-point, point-to-multipoint networks and linear networks. It is also compatible with existing 802.11 networks.

RADiANT™ is a license-free data radio, and does not interfere with existing radio networks. Additionally, RailComm optionally provides an integrated I/O module with each RADiANT data radio.

About RailComm

RailComm, Inc. provides Machine-to-Machine Command, Control, Communication and Information (M2M/C3i) solutions for our railroad and industrial clients throughout North America. We integrate our intelligent embedded controllers with existing field-based appliances and communicate remote control/status information to central and/or distributed control platforms such as our server-based platform, and our line of industrial indoor/outdoor control panels. DOC® provides a networked platform for data acquisition, command/control decision logic, and extensible/scaleable architecture to support a wide variety of customer specific applications. RailComm control panels can be configured as standalone controllers or can be integrated with a DOC® system.

RailComm control systems are installed on most Class 1 railroads throughout North America, as well as dozens of Passenger Rail, Short Line and Regional railroads.
