RailComm Yard Automation System in production at Transnet’s Ermelo Yard July 7, 2008 -- RailComm continues its global expansion by successfully commissioning a Yard Automation System for Transnet’s Ermelo Yard in South Africa. The automation system is comprised of a DOC® central office and an associated outdoor-rated control panel. Per Transnet requirements, the system operator is in charge of selecting the appropriate control mode based on desired operating conditions. Additionally, the system at Ermelo utilizes RailComm RADiANT™ data radios to communicate between the office system, the control panel, and a network of power switches along the ladder tracks. The power switches are controlled by the RailComm Universal Switch Controller, providing customers the ability to utilize any power switch machine on the market. The RailComm Yard Automation System dramatically increases yard safety and measurably improves yard dwell times and switching productivity.
