Order for Remote
Locomotive Switching System at ON Minerals For Immediate Release May 31, 2006 -- RailComm, Inc. has received an order for a wireless remote control locomotive switching system for the ON Minerals limestone mining operation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This RailComm wireless remote control automation system will allow the train engineer to control all power switches directly from the locomotive cab. It eliminates the need to stop and manually operate switches by allowing the locomotive engineer to operate switches in advance using RailComm radio technology. The operator receives audio information regarding switch status and alignment via a standard voice radio located in the cab, and can automatically operate switches via remote control. ON Minerals selected this technology to decrease the amount of time required to manually line switches. This technology uses a point-to-point data communication network, using RailComm RADiANTTM data radio technology, to link an on-board controller with equipped power switches.
