RailComm Commissions 26th DOC® Control System

For Immediate Release

FAIRPORT, NY – Jan. 30, 2003. RailComm, Inc. announces it has commissioned the 26th installation of its DOC® yard control system for the San Diego Trolley’s “A” yard. System design, build, test, and acceptance were accomplished ahead of schedule and within 40 days from signing the contract. The San Diego Trolley installation includes RailComm’s DOC®:Yard server-based control application running on dual servers configured for hot standby backup operation. DOC®:Yard commands and controls sixteen solar powered switch machines integrated with RailComm’s industry leading DOC® communication module.

The DOC®:Yard module provides an interface to existing switch equipment and provides for the communication and control of such equipment from remote locations. The entire control system along with local switch protection and a new signal aspect system was installed ahead of schedule, before the 2003 Super Bowl in San Diego.

RailComm’s advanced automation was required to dramatically improve the yard switching productivity in San Diego, reducing the train exit time from the yard from up to 25 minutes to less than 1 minute, thereby allowing trains to be efficiently dispatched to transport the thousands of additional people attending the game. The RailComm DOC®:Yard system is configured for seamless upgrade and will easily scale to meet the future automation needs of the San Diego Trolley, Inc.
